With the pandemic and rising global prices, these troubling times have already seen a 45% drop in turnover for beauty and hair salons, and a drop in full-time employment of 21%. But our industry is nothing if not resilient. As market analysers Euromonitor International observed:
“Beauty and personal care has shown [the industry is] more resilient than other non-essential consumer goods industries”
Working together and building community is what makes our industry so resilient, able to bounce back quicker and stronger. The latest problem we collectively face is the rise in energy costs. The British Association of Beauty Therapy And Cosmetology (BABTAC), who work closely with the hair and beauty professionals to share our voice at a governmental level, recently conducted a survey to understand the impact that the rise in energy bills is having on our industry. We look forward to the results and are keen to see what support the government might offer. But in the meantime we must endeavor to do everything we can to help each other. Collectively we can give each other the support we need. As self-help author Napoleon Hill, who’s Think and Grow Rich is among the top ten best selling books of all time, said:
